Stuart Clark

Stuart Clark is principal clarinet with Los Angeles Opera and a leading Los Angeles studio musician.

Stuart received his music education at the Royal College of Music in London, graduating with honours. In his postgraduate year he was awarded an exchange fellowship to study at UCLA and furthered his studies at USC. Stuart is currently the Principal Clarinettist of the Los Angeles Opera and has performed with the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra, Spokane Symphony, Pasadena Symphony, Pacific Symphony and New West Symphony. As an active chamber musician he has worked with Jacaranda, Capitol Ensemble, Infrequency and the New Hollywood String Quartet. In addition to live orchestral and chamber music concerts, he records regularly for film and television.

Stuart's recent TV and film credits include Human Target, Wanted, The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button, Nim's Island, Nights In Rodanthe, Hancock, The Express, Bolt, Year One, X-Men Origins: Wolverine, The Watchmen, The Uninvited, Doubt, Couples Retreat, The Pacific, Dinner for Schmucks, Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief, The Last Airbender, War Horse, Water for Elephants, X-Men: First Class, Sucker Punch, The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn, The Rite, No Strings Attached, Rango, Men in Black 3, and Snow White and The Huntsman.

Stuart has played Peter Eaton large bore Elite clarinets since 1995 and bought a second pair in 2011. In 2021, he took a third pair, along with a large bore basset lower joint. We made two basset joints in 2021, the other going to leading soloist Mark Simpson.
